Geospatial Solution Developer

Overview: The Gartrell Group seeks an expert geospatial engineer with full-stack and cloud capabilities. We’re looking for a smart solution designer, developer, and implementor with fluency in contemporary GIS platforms to join our team.  Are you deeply keen on GIS? Cloud savvy? Position Description: This full stack dev position offers the ideal candidate an opportunity to participate directly in designing and developing state-of-the-art geospatial solutions that provide insight, deliver efficiencies, and help solve real world problems. Opportunities and responsibilities include:

  • Participating in solution design and architecture. 

  • Contributing to multiple phases of project work, including Discovery and Requirements; Planning and Design; Implementation; Testing; and Production Rollout. 

  • Helping to anticipate and clear obstacles to technical work execution. 

  • Helping to ensure the technical team's work is informed by best practices and aligned with organizational strategy and the technology roadmaps of relevant software systems and platforms.  

  • Providing unwavering customer advocacy in selecting and applying technologies and advising on the design and delivery of geospatial solutions.  

  • Working with attention to and investment in process improvement, work velocity and productivity, quality, and team satisfaction.  

  • Coordinating closely with Project Managers, Tech Leads, Scrum Masters, and QA Leads to define and manage work-aligned project schedules and budgets.  

  • Designing, configuring, coding, and helping create and deliver robust solutions that perform at scale.  

  • Bringing experience in designing, building, and maintaining cloud-deployed solutions focused on AWS and/or Azure platforms.  

  • Bringing strong Python and JavaScript chops, work samples, and experience to draw from.  

  • Bringing chops with databases and resilient, performant storage solutions.

  • Helping to maintain and enrich customer-centered management & communications on technical projects and ongoing service delivery. 

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Preferred degree in computer science, software engineering, GIS engineering, or related field.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English.

  • 4+ years of technical experience working in GIS software development and solution design. 

  • 2+ years working with cloud resources & cloud-deployed solutions. 

  • 2+ years developing database-integrated solutions using JavaScript, Python. 

  • Experience with traditional RDBMS systems as well as AWS RDS, Azure SQL, and/or Postgres aaS solutions. 

  • Experience with DevOps & CI/CD. 

  • Experience designing and implementing enterprise-level geospatial solutions. 

  • Deep practical knowledge of the Esri technology stack and ecosystem; ArcGIS Enterprise, & related APIs, back office, web, and mobile tooling; understanding of Esri best-practices, strengths, pitfalls, workarounds, and areas of weakness.

  • Practical experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud platforms. 

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills – what questions do you ask to get to the root of the matter? 

  • Eager to learn, adapt, and perfect your work; you are curious but seek out help when needed and put it to good use.

  • You are very personable - an excellent communicator (both written and verbal) who enjoys interacting with others. 

  • You are highly responsible and self-motivated, with exceptional attention to detail. 

Location: Flexible - remote is fine or, if you happen to be in Portland, OR, Seattle, WA, or Chicago, IL on-site is an option.

Travel: Occasional travel
